Gonçalo Dias is taking on a new challenge
Gonçalo Dias joined Medea-Chart as a postdoctoral fellow almost from the beginning of the project, in July 2017. His knowledge of history is immense and day-by-day conversations with him were always extremely interesting, sometimes even sparking long discussions with the other team members at lunchtime, one of the many opportunities for debating research, history in general, and the history of science in particular.
Even though Gonçalo’s background is in Theoretical Physics, he has acquired vast knowledge in the history of science by his own personal interest and initiative. During his time with Medea-Chart his work mainly focused at the cartometric analysis of medieval charts to uncover trends, similarities and differences from which their use and evolution may be inferred. Gonçalo´s contribution had been on an ascending curve with great promise but, unfortunately for us, he has obtained a position as a physicist researcher at the Instituto Superior Técnico, part of the University of Lisbon, and is leaving us this month.
All we are left with now are fond memories of his warmth and friendship and wish him luck and all the best for his career ahead.
